Let’s reset it.” What Are Coping Skills?Coping skills are the strategies we use—consciously or unconsciously—to manage emotional distress, stress, anxiety, grief, or overwhelming life experiences. They help us navigate difficult emotions and maintain a sense of stability during challenging times. Coping skills aren’t about “fixing” the problem. They’re about supporting your emotional wellbeing while you move through it. Everyone has their own way of coping called coping strategies. Some coping skills are healthy and supportive. Others may offer short-term relief but cause harm over time. The goal is to become more aware of your habits and gently shift toward adaptive coping that helps you feel more grounded, resilient, and emotionally safe.
