What Is The Difference Between Anxiety & Stress?
I've often been asked this - As a counsellor, I can explain that anxiety and stress are closely related but not the same. Both involve the body’s response to perceived threats, but they differ in origin, duration, and how they affect us.
So, What Is Stress?
Stress is usually caused by an external trigger — such as work deadlines, exams, financial pressures, or relationship problems. It tends to have a clear, identifiable source.
Stress is your body’s natural response to pressure — whether it’s from work, relationships, finances, health issues, or major life changes. It triggers a physical and emotional reaction commonly known as the "fight or flight" response.
In small doses, stress can be motivating. But when it becomes chronic or intense, it can affect your emotional wellbeing, physical health, and ability to cope with everyday life.
